New type of micro and ultra-fine grain carbide material grade- GY83 has been developed through selecting ultra-fine WC material, adding Nano vanadium carbide powder inhibiting grain growth during the sintering process, applying strengthening ball milling process and vacuum pressure furnace. GY83 is currently mainly used in the machining of cast iron, such as automotive engine crankshaft, cylinder block and indexable deep hole drilling inserts; its performance has reached international level.

The coating material may produce cracks in the cooling process and expand to the substrate due to the thermal stress because of different thermal expansion coefficient of the material, . In order to prevent material failure caused by crack and obtain cemented carbide tool materials with high performance, matrix gradient can be applied and ductile region formed deficient in cubic carbide and carbonitride in surface area where the content of adhesive binder is higher than nominal binder of the base material. When the cracks formed in the coating extends to this area, it can efficiently prevent the crack extension to the alloy because of good toughness to absorb the crack propagation energy. So carbide cutting tool performance has been improved.
